Under this program, we research and study the systemic factors affecting girl child growth and development after which we then fronts several strategies of empowering them so as to help them overcome those challenges.
Below are list of some of the systemic factors affecting girl child from pastoralists communities in area of our focus and the strategies we have employed in addressing them:-
SYSTEMIC FACTORS
- Female genital mutilation,
- Early marriage as they are deemed “mature enough
- Parenting roles
- Lack of sanitary pads during menstruation
- Resistance to “foreign values Community’s belief that a woman’s place is in the kitchen
- Preference for boy child especially when resource to educate the two are scarce.
OUR APPROACH
-Establishment of girl’s mentorship and coaching programme in primary and secondary schools.
-Capacity strengthening of the School Management Committees (SMC)
-Creating linkages for academic achievers to organizations and institutions providing Sponsorship and scholarship for secondary and higher education.
-Establishing pastoralist Girl Child Education Trust fund (GCETF)
-Support in and out of schools youth talent search and development programme during national events like drama, music festivals, and sports activities among others.
-Ensure community teaching/tutorial capacity among the moving population
-Ensure availability of boarding facility
