Sexual Reproductive & Health Rights

While transitioning to adulthood, young people have to make decisions that impact their lives both now and in the future. These decisions include reproductive health decisions. 

Youth Empowerment Strategies & Advocacy works with these Young people to provide support and skills to make the right decisions that have to do with their sexuality, sexual right, and wellness. We will partner with a number of organizations and agencies to improve young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health and rights. 

Young Social Media Advocate (YSMA) 

In reaching young people with messages on Gender equality, Gender-based Violence, Girl Education and Female genital mutilation, having a sure approach to reaching the over 12 million social media users in Kenya is key. 

According to latest statistics, As of January 2023, the number of social media users in Kenya stood at 10.5 million, marking the third highest volume in the period observed. Compared to 2014, the country had roughly three times more social media users in 2023. 

The common social media account includes WhatsApp, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube and Instagram. To be able to reap the benefits of these growing communities, Youth Empowerment Strategies & Advocacy with the support of Partners are committed to working with youth who are existing social media influencers to reaching other young people within their online communities. 

This project will build a community of young advocates who will use social media as an effective tool and strategy to raise awareness, share impact stories, and connect with relevant stakeholders to drive social change. 

Goal:
Build a network of youth advocates using social media to reach and engage people especially their peers on issues related to adolescent and young people’s Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights. 

Objectives:
1. Build capacity of existing youth leaders and social media influencers among the pastoralist communities in the use of social media for advocacy.
2. Develop a social media strategy and work plan.
3. Develop and implement issue-based and commemoration day campaigns.
